Daydreaming with Author, Joseph M. Rinaldo

Today, I'd like you to help me welcome Author, Joseph M. Rinaldo to Daydreaming.  Recently, I've had the pleasure to meet several authors who may have appeared to be just another acquaintance on the surface, but upon further inspection stand out from the crowd for various unexpected reasons.

You may have noticed a pattern forming. When you can spotlight an author and at the same time bring recognition to either a condition, situation or occurrence of social worthiness, it is even more worthy of the effort.

Joseph's books both have a character with Down syndrome. In his own words, "My experiences with this wonderful population come from not only living with someone with Down, but from my roles of Special Olympics coach, volunteer, and coordinator, and the countless interactions life provides for a dad with his child and her friends."

I'd like to share the blurb from his book.

Hazardous Choices

After surviving life in a violent Chicago street-gang through his high school years, Darnell Jackson’s future appears promising. A football scholarship gives him the chance to escape the thug lifestyle.
During his first year in college Darnell safely resides in a small Kentucky town, playing Division Two college football and trying to make something of himself. Adjusting to the new surroundings proves tough, but a teammate and a girl give him hope that his future will be better than his past.

In the summer after his freshman year, he returns to the old neighborhood to be with his mother. The gang reasserts its hold on him, and the leader orders Darnell to kill a member of a rival gang. Nearly dying in a gang fight and mistakenly shooting a wrong rival gang member forces Darnell to re-evaluate his future. As a result, he lies to the mercurial leader of his gang.

When the head gangbanger learns of Darnell’s lie, the small Kentucky town isn’t so safe anymore.
