Up Close and Personal With Author, Paulette Mahurin

I am so excited to be featuring several authors here on my blog as a part of the First Love Blog Hope.  I wanted to give readers an intimate look at the author behind their books.

Author, Paulette Mahurin

Paulette Mahurin, an award-winning author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--Max and Bella. She practices women’s health in a rural clinic and writes in her spare time. She’s been involved in animal rescue for the past 28 years and all profits from her book, The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap are going to Santa Paula Animal Rescue Center, the first and only no-kills shelter in Ventura County, CA. Paulette's Favorite Sweet Treat
Sensuous Chocolate

I make it out of dark chocolate, walnuts, oatmeal all melted together with a little soy or almond milk, let it harden and it turns into a really deliciously sensuous treat.

What do you consider a truly romantic evening?
A meal prepared at home followed by a sit in front of the fireplace while we exchange back rubs to romantic music.
What is your favorite romantic movie?
Sleepless in Seattle

What is the “Most” romantic gift you ever received? Why?
My engagement ring. Years before my husband met me, he traveled the world. He found a sapphire ring, a beautiful piece of jewelry, in some exotic place. He bought it to give to the woman, his future love, that he knew he would some day meet and fall in love with. When he gave me that ring, it was a forever gesture, that he wanted this relationship, through it all with all his heart. We’ve been together 28 years and to this day have a sustained a loving intimate relationship. He’s my best friend.

What do you consider romantic that doesn’t cost money?
A look. A certain touch. Sitting close together and listening to music. Back rubs. Taking the time to just let me/or my hubby know, “I’m here for you” in little every day actions that help me/him appreciate the preciousness of this connection. The best romantic moments for me don’t cost a penny.

Up Close & Personal with Author, Violet Patterson

I am so excited to be featuring several authors here on my blog as a part of the First Love Blog Hope.  I wanted to give readers an intimate look at the author behind their books.

Author, Violet Patterson

Violet Patterson is a northwest Ohio native who spent much of her childhood creating plays (costumes and all!) for her younger siblings to perform.  From there, she moved on to simplistic poetry and children's stories - unfortunately works like "Adventures of Super Cookie" were never released to the masses.
Ms. Patterson graduated from Miami University with a degree in social sciences. After several years in the field she decided to stop brainstorming in notebooks, on post it notes, and along the borders of her desk calendars.  Storm Sullivan was born from those efforts and eventually, "Ryder on the Storm - Emerald Seer I" was released as Ms. Patterson's debut novel. The sequel, "Light My Fire." was released in December 2011 followed by an accompanying novella, "Whiskey, Mystics, and Men" (early 2012) and the third full novel in the series, "Love Her Madly" (August 2012). The final installment, "End of the Night" is in progress with anticipated release in 2013.
Two energetic children and a part time marketing assistant position keep her active and fulfilled.

What do you consider a truly romantic evening?

Curled up on the couch with a bottle of good wine, delicious cheese and a bit of dark chocolate to read, watch a movie, or just chat.

What is your favorite romantic movie?

Probably The Notebook, it gets me every time.

Of your own characters whom do you consider “Most” romantic? Why?

Honestly, I think people would be surprised to know I think Lucian is the most romantic.  He has only loved one woman and his reverence for her is unparalleled in my opinion.  This gruff, sarcastic, hard man is putty in the hands of tiny, quiet Sophia Bedeaux.  How romantic is that?
What is the “Most” romantic gift you ever received? Why?

A tiny pair of shoes.  Seems so small and insignificant and probably cost nothing at all but it meant more to me than anything I received before or since.

What do you consider romantic that doesn’t cost money?
A hand resting lightly at the small of my back, meaningful conversation, a sensual backrub after a long day, a baby kisses along my jaw line and down my neck.

Up Close & Personal with SJ Byrne

I am so excited to be featuring several authors here on my blog as a part of the First Love Blog Hope.  I wanted to give readers an intimate look at the author behind their books.

Author, S.J. Byrne

Living in the mountains of Western North Carolina SJ Byrne is just trying to make her way through the insanity that comes with creativity. Writing is her passion - life is her muse. Keep an eye out for new books due later this year.

SJ's Favorite Sweet Treat

  Crave Me Caramels!

I’d give you the recipe but it’s a closely held secret! Lol

What do you consider a truly romantic evening?

Any time spent with someone special, holding hands and truly being with each other is romantic to me. It can be snuggled on the couch or sitting next to each other in a restaurant. It’s all about being connected to each other.

What is your favorite romantic movie?
My all-time fave romantic movie is a toss-up between Pride and Prejudice,
P.S. I love you, and The Lake House

Of your own characters whom do you consider “Most” romantic? Why?
I think Brandubh is most romantic.
He understands the woman he loves and what makes her tick, even if she doesn’t.
What is the “Most” romantic gift you ever received? Why?
I am sad to say I cannot answer that question.

What do you consider romantic that doesn’t cost money?
Walking together by the beach or a lake, holding hands and kissing every few feet.

Tammie's Favorite Sweet Treat
Ferrero  Rocher Chocolates
I absolutely love these chocolates and my husband surprises me with a box from time to time.
What do you consider a truly romantic evening?
Cuddling up on the couch with our favorite bring-home meal, watching a good movie.
What is your favorite romantic movie?
I have several favorite romantic movies, but I do love "The Lakehouse".
What is the “Most” romantic gift you ever received? Why?
When we had only been dating a couple of months, my husband took me on a shopping trip and while shopping I spotted a Gund Stuffed Rabbit...it was actually designed for a baby because it has a rattle inside of it. For whatever reason, that's a gift that is still very special to me. I didn't even let my son play with it when he was a baby.  I guess it reminds me what a lovely day we had together.
What do you consider romantic that doesn’t cost money?
I love the way my husband "believes" in me and is my biggest fan and always has been. Whatever, I want to do he believes I can do. To me his confidence in me is very romantic.

Description:

The battle for Estelan begins.

Many annuals have passed since Estelan was nearly destroyed in a great battle between two deities. Isthile is all that remains. Built and protected over generations by survivors who evolved and learned to exist in the shadows of the ever watchful moon.

In one evening the fragile existence of Isthile is threatened when remnants of an ancient Darkness lay siege to the town's elders. The eldest, Lord Kriton escapes to safety with a small band of young Isthiliens bearing old magic of Light. Kriton must convince them to fight the growing darkness, unlock their own powers, and unravel the secrets of Estelan's past to fulfill the prophecy that can save their world.

When nothing is at it seems, these young warriors must make their own ways even if it means leaving the behind everything they have ever known.

Excerpt from Estelan:
Prologue
A shadowy figure slipped between the cracking, blistered tree trunks. Its curses carried forth on the blustering wind forcing woodland creatures to flee. The flora wilted where It paused to rest. Ragged breaths caught when a branch cracked.
“My Lord, all is not lost.” A cloaked figure stepped into a beam of moonlight and faced the shadow. “There are still ways to win.”
The shadow spat, “What is left to win? This world is worth nothing now, it will die too soon.”
“No, my Lord. It will not die because of the girl’s sacrifice. There are survivors and they will seek each other out to rebuild. The power of the core is vast and will heal itself. In time we can make it as it was, rejoin the halves, take the orbs for our own and harness the power of the core.” The cloaked figure reached out to the shadow. “I beg of you, allow me to move forward with my plan. You can rest while we wait and when the time is right we shall raise an army to defeat the survivors.”
“Hide from those lesser? Is that what you would have me do?” The shadow hissed, its eyes burning red in the dark cloud.
“No, my Lord, never. I am but suggesting you rest and watch while I perform the menial tasks to simple for your greatness.” The cloaked figure bowed respectfully to the shadow.
“A rest. Yes. Fair enough, servant.” The shadow curled into itself until all that remained was a wisp of black smoke. It rocketed through the air and into the cloaked figure’s hood.
